Why Truck Camping is the Perfect Getaway
There’s nothing like loading up the truck, packing the kayaks, and heading out for a few days away from the daily grind. Truck camping keeps things simple—everything you need is right in the bed of the truck, and every day brings a new view. Beth and I recently set out for a well-deserved trip that checked all the boxes: fishing, cooking on the Blackstone griddle, and waking up to sunrise over the lake.
Kayak Bass Fishing 🎣
If you love bass fishing, adding kayaks to your truck camping setup is a must. We launched at first light, paddling into calm water with rods ready. Fishing from kayaks gave us the freedom to slip into quiet coves where the bass were hiding.
Beth landed a couple of beauties, and I had a few solid catches myself. Whether you’re chasing trophy bass or just out to relax, kayak fishing adds a whole new layer of fun to a truck camping adventure.
Blackstone Griddle Camping Meals 🍳🔥
One of the highlights of the trip was trying out our Blackstone griddle for camping. This was our first time cooking on it, and it didn’t disappoint.
- Breakfast: Eggs, bacon, and crispy hash browns—all sizzling at once.
- Dinner: Philly cheesesteaks with onions, peppers, and gooey melted cheese.
The Blackstone made cooking fast, easy, and mess-free. Compared to juggling pans over a campfire, this setup kept things simple and let us enjoy more time outdoors. For anyone serious about truck camping meals, a Blackstone griddle is worth the investment.
Cold Morning Coffee by the Lake ☕🌅
Truck camping mornings don’t get better than this: waking up to crisp air, brewing a hot cup of coffee, and watching the sun rise over the lake. Coffee outdoors just hits different, especially with a view like that.
Pro tip: Always come prepared for camp coffee. It makes mornings easier, and you’ll thank yourself when the temperature dips.
The Not-So-Peaceful Part (Thanks to a Generator) 🙄
Every camping trip has its quirks. For us, it was the neighbor’s generator buzzing away. Not exactly the sound of nature we hoped for, but it’s part of the camping gamble. Earplugs, music by the fire, and a good sense of humor helped us tune it out and stay focused on the good stuff.
Why This Trip Was Exactly What We Needed 🌲🚚
Between the bass fishing, the Blackstone meals, and the peaceful (mostly) lakeside mornings, this trip was a reminder of why we love truck camping. It’s affordable, flexible, and puts you right in the middle of nature without overcomplicating things.
If you’ve been thinking about trying truck camping with kayaks, go for it. Pack your rods, bring a griddle, and don’t forget the coffee. Even if your neighbor’s generator runs late into the night, the memories are more than worth it.
