Winter camping hits different — quieter trails, frozen lakes, crackling fires, and that peaceful stillness you only get when the crowds disappear. This past weekend, Beth and I packed up the truck and headed out to Silent Lake Provincial Park for a cold-weather adventure in our NIJI Pop‑Up Camper… and it did not disappoint.

We were joined by our friends Rob and Jen from Pursuit for Adventure, and right from the start, it was shaping up to be one of those classic camping weekends you don’t forget.

Cozy Campfire Nights & Cold-Weather Vibes

With temperatures below freezing, the campfire quickly became our home base. We spent hours gathered around the flames, warming up, swapping stories, and enjoying drinks while watching the sparks float up into the winter sky.

There’s something special about camping in winter — no bugs, no noise, just pure stillness. The forest felt untouched, like we had the whole park to ourselves.

Camp Cooking at Its Best

If you know us, you know cooking at camp is serious business.

Rob and I are… let’s just say passionate when it comes to fire-side meals. This weekend turned into an unofficial cook-off (the best kind).

🍝 My Camp Recipe:

I cooked up some Cajun chicken and sausage alfredo right on the camp stove — creamy, spicy, and exactly what you want after a cold day outside.

🌮 Rob’s Fire-Cooked Masterpiece:

Rob absolutely crushed it with braised beef tacos cooked over the fire. Slow-cooked meat, toasted tortillas, and all the toppings — it didn’t even feel like camping food. It felt like restaurant-level trail cooking.

Exploring the Park

Saturday afternoon we bundled up and hit the trails, walking along the lakefront and soaking in the winter views. Silent Lake is known for being beautiful in every season, but winter really shows off its peaceful side.

The shoreline, quiet forest paths, and snow-covered scenery made for the perfect mid-day adventure before heading back to camp and lighting that fire again.

Camping Comfort with the NIJI Pop-Up Camper

Camping in the winter can be rough — unless you’re geared up right.

The NIJI Pop-Up Camper absolutely shined on this trip. Warm, comfortable, easy to set up, and perfect for cold conditions. When the fire died down and the temperature dropped at night, it was incredible to step inside a warm camper and actually sleep comfortably while winter camping.

If you’ve ever thought about off-season camping, having the right setup makes all the difference.

Final Thoughts

This weekend was exactly what winter camping should be — good friends, great food, crackling fires, and complete peace in nature.

Silent Lake Provincial Park delivered, our camper kept us warm and comfortable, and cooking by the fire with friends made it unforgettable.

We’re already planning the next trip.

  1. This was a great read. Winter camping always looks simple in photos but you captured the quiet effort behind it really well. I loved how you balanced the practical details with those small moments that make cold trips worth it. Silent Lake feels less like a destination here and more like a state of mind, and the Niji setup honestly makes winter feel inviting instead of intimidating.
